Hello Neil,

I was both stunned and honored to find a quote from me that I wrote when I was program director of my college radio station in 1972. Seems like just yesterday, but of course it wasn't. Thank you for posting it, again, I'm honored

Internet greetings old friend.
Was looking through some old stuff in the closet and found a 7" tape of Alban Berg's Lulu and remembered when you turned me on to it (circa 1973?).

Cheers

Yo', Neil:
I think PEACE WILL COME should be played at the beginning of every session of the UN General Assembly and, most definitely, the Security Council. Dancing in the aisles might come later.
You never know....

Hey Neil, I'm trying to track down a copy of the album you did for Atlantic in the early 70s. Not finding anything on the Internet. Any helpful hints? Do you happen to have any extra copies you would sell me? Let me know! Thanks, Emmett - New York City emmettrosen@gmail.com

Hello Neil,

I am researching Allan Sherman to write his biography, and Ray Charles suggested that your father may have tapes of Sherman singing at house parties.

I spoke with Sharon Rosengarden the other day, and she gave me your brother Mark's number. I called him and he was very helpful and will have a look around. He also suggested I contact you.

I wrote the liner notes to Rhino's 6-CD boxed set of Sherman's songs and also a more scholarly article in American Jewish History.

Thank you for your help.

Best,
Mark

Neil: I was close friends with your brother Mark at Arrandale Elementry School in Kings Point. I read about your father's passing, and thought about Mark when I read the obit in the NY Times. Your father was always very nice to me as a kid and I slept over at your house many times and played trumpet in a band with Mark in 4th - 6th grade.

Can you please either ask Mark to contact me, or e-mail me his e-mail or contact info?

Hi Neil,

Following up on a couple of other people below, how and where could we obtain a good quality copy of "It Moves Me" from the 1977 documentary "Gizmo!"?

It's a brilliant song and after seeing the documentary again yesterday, I really want that song as well as all the others!

Please let us know.

Thanks,
SP

I am sorry to hear about your dad's passing. It's a hole in your heart that can never be filled...but you go on and see the joy of your kids knowing that your dad lives through them.

I met your dad in the early 70's when I was a student at NYC's Music & Art HS. I was studying sax/flute with the late Harvey Estrin who played with your dad on the Cavett show. Your dad allowed me to watch rehearsals every day after school. I did it for a couple of years. His sense of humor was superlative. He was a good man.

Hi Neil--how much do you remember about Camp Champlain! I was there for 8 years starting in 1961. I'm 55 now and living in Walnut Creek, CA. Still playing trombone in big bands. I noticed you played with Allison Moorer--I like her and own Miss Fortune CD. I also have friends who are big Guster fans and noticed you've played with them as well. Where are you living? Best Regards, Dave.

Neil,

I'd like to ask the same question Terrance posted on Oct 11, '08: Where can I find a copy of "It Moves Me" from the Gizmo! film? I've been looking for that song for years. The higher sound quality, the better.

Thanks,

BD

Is there any way to get the original version that's featured in GIZMO (1977)?

Peace

September 19, 2008

Hey Neil,
I was Christine Rosier! It is sooooo nice being Christine Harpley...Anyway Neil, hope that you are well. Wow, looking at your photographs made me realise how little I knew you. Shame.
I was wondering if you could send me Mark's email address. Mark recently met up with my son Jordan in San Francisco while he was waiting to catch a plane out to Oz and I'de like to get in touch with him.
I remember so many funky, quirky sayings of your Dad's. He was always so kind to me, I can't imagine what it would have been like to stay in New Canaan without his welcoming smile and great warmth. I'm so glad that he has been a part of my journey.
Go well talented Man.

Neil,

I've been looking for "It Moves Me" ever since I saw Gizmo! (many years ago). Can you add it to your buyable/downloadable music?

Bill Adams

November 4, 2007

Neil,

I've searched for the answer to this question for months. Your father played a closing theme to The Dick Cavett Show. It was a slow jazzy number in the same vein as Neil Hefti's Li'l Darlin.

What was that song?

Thanks so much.

Bob Davidson

September 29, 2007

Just read your comments on the Dick Cavett article in the NY Times and decided to Google you and let you know how much I dug your dad's music on the old TV show. Must have been quite an experience meeting Lennon and some of the other guests he had. Wished Cavett was still broadcasting.

My best.

C'mon Neil don't tell me you moved to Cleveland. At least now you can get
a good kosher sandwich. The show JERSEY BOYS is the biggest hit since
Fidler and one of your favorite songs is in it to stay. Thanks for
being one of the first to realize how good the tune was.

All my best on your new projects..

After Ray Charles you should put (the vocal group guy). Otherwise, nice and funny bio stuff. Did you figure out how to webmaster yourself? I got to jam w/ my long-time hero John Sebastian in North Hampton, Mass. a few weeks ago at NRBQ's reunion weekend. We played steel-guitar duets on the stage after soundcheck. Everly Bros. and Platters tunes. Yay.
